I had a similar incident with a state park while I was out doing night landscape photography.
My car was parked in a designated space, there were no signs at the entrance or on the website about any areas of the park closing after certain hours and camping being allowed in the park.
However, a park ranger gave me a parking citation and stood on the lot yelling that my car was about to be towed for being parked illegally. Of course, there are also no towing signs anywhere with the name and number of the towing company, as required by law.
When I fought him, the park rangers argued that it was all for my safety because the ground was uneven and it was dark. I noticed that they made no effort to look for me (I was only about 150 feet from my car, and when I heard the scream, he started running in their direction with a flashlight) and the campers who were 25 feet away
They finally decided to “look past things this time” when I told them I was happy to see them in court to defend their BS subpoena.
