“Words cannot express the courage and fortitude Ms. Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light.”
Despite the widespread outrage caused by the images of the hotel, the The Los Angeles District Attorney's office issued a statement maintaining that it has no option to prosecute him.
The office cited the statute of limitations for the assault and said that because the footage was filmed in March 201, the window to file charges has expired.
“If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately we would not be able to charge, as the conduct would have occurred beyond the time frame in which a felony assault can be prosecuted,” the LA DA's office wrote in a statement.
California's statute of limitations for simple assault is one year, although aggravated assault is three years. According to the timeline, no charges could be brought against Diddy.
The office added that law enforcement has not filed charges against Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, in connection with the attack.
After Cassie's lawsuit was settled in November, her lawyers released a statement saying the star “decided to resolve this matter amicably on the terms that I would have some level of control.”
“I want to thank my family, fans and lawyers for their unwavering support.”
In his own statement following the settlement, Diddy's attorney said his settlement of the case was in no way an admission of guilt.
His lawyer added that he denies all of Ventura's accusations.
