Some Democratic strategists have expressed doubts that Vice President and presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris should choose Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer as her running mate in the November election, Politico reported Saturday.
Whitmer's name has been circulated as a possible choice for a vice-presidential role alongside Harris, now the front-runner for the Democratic nomination based on an internal party vote, given that President Joe Biden dropped out of the race on Sunday. But some Democrats and strategists doubted that a Harris-Whitmer ticket — or, more broadly, a two-woman ticket — could succeed, seconds to the politician
“She could [pick a woman]. But it's not,” Bill Shaheen, husband of New Hampshire Democratic Sen. Jeanna Shaheen, told Politico after introducing Whitmer at a Harris rally in New Hampshire on Thursday. Shaheen, on the other hand, expressed interest in Arizona Democratic Sen. Whitmer stated in several interviews during her trip to New Hampshire that the country was ready to throw its support behind an all-female ticket, pointing to the fact that “we've had two men since the beginning of time,” according to politician . But she has repeatedly rejected the idea of running for vice-president and maintains that she is “not part of the process”.
