A Texas congressman warned an airline after he shared details about his wife's encounter with a “distraught” employee who allegedly assaulted their dog.
As the hits hit the airline industry, and United Airlines in particular, Texas Rep. Dan Crenshaw (right) obtained security footage that appeared to show the service falling far short of its “Fly the Friendly Skies” slogan .
According to the lawmaker and retired US Navy SEAL, his wife and mother-in-law were traveling with their two dogs and daughter when they were informed that pets would not be allowed on the flight. Crenshaw obtained footage from the airport through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to show the public what happened next when her family members decided they would book a flight on a different airline .
“The United agent wanted to take our dog out of the bag. He wanted to take the dog, photograph it and report my wife so they could never fly again,” the congressman said, sharing several angles of the incident. “He was completely baffled. My wife said, 'No, of course not. You're not touching my dog. You already told us we can't fly, so we're going to get away with it. And that's what they tried to do. '”.
“You see on the video that they're trying to leave and this woman goes into my dog's bag and starts ripping things out of it. Out of her mind,” Crenshaw stated.
This is one of the most aggressive videos I've ever had to post. You really have to watch it until the end. You'll see a United agent take the dog and personal property, and hear the shocking recording of my conversation with that agent's supervisor (the vice president of… pic.twitter.com/xhK0v4zQzw

Before detailing the events, the Texas lawmaker had spoken with United Airlines' vice president of airport operations, Phillip Griffith, in a conversation he recorded in November under the state's one-party consent laws. lone star status.
Crenshaw included audio of that exchange showing the executive's hostility and alleging there was an attempt to cover up the incident while accusing the congressman's wife of being a “practical agitator.”
“I deal with people like you and your wife and customers like you every day. And I treat them all the same. Let's go,” Griffith could be heard saying. “Your wife was beautiful. She was agitated from the first moment.”
The politician shared heated audio of himself swearing during the exchange, prompting the vice president to tell him to “shut up.”
“I'm going to finish it. I don't care what you think you can do,” Griffith continued. “I told you what was going to happen. This is about to come to an end.”
In the video's caption, Crenshaw wrote about his intention to introduce legislation to address interactions like this and protect customers in the future. “Many of you have shared your stories of being mistreated by an airline agent on an electric trip. It's time to start considering legislation that protects passengers. These airlines took tens of billions of taxpayer dollars. United took $10.9 million and owes us more than that.”
Her account prompted others to detail their own encounters, including journalist Sara Carter, who alleged that her husband, a blind service veteran, had been abused by an American Airlines flight attendant in Action of thanks “I'm glad Dan spoke up because frankly [way] Some of the #FlightBullies airline employees treat paying customers is unbelievable.”
I know exactly how Rep. Dan Crenshaw feels because I was scolded by an American Airlines flight attendant over Thanksgiving because I did not notify them in a specific letter in their computer system that my husband was blind. YES, my offense was not reporting my… https://t.co/J4flHAtpqV

My husband had a horrible time with United Airlines in 2017 when we lived in Houston. It was so horrible, they were SO disrespectful and unwilling to help him that we will both never, ever fly United again since. THEY ARE THE WORST!

The congressman's account of events comes as United has faced considerable backlash for its embrace of the Agenda Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. With hiring practices apparently putting quotas above qualifications, the airline's CEO Scott Kirby also came under fire for allegedly being a drag queen.
Crenshaw had skipped over those details as she focused on the key issue of her family's experience, closing by asking, “It is United policy for your agents to take passengers' pets and property.”
In his own statement on the matter reported per Newsweek, United said, “We tried to work with the congressman to resolve his concerns amicably. We disagree with his characterization of what happened, and we support our employees who stood up for United's pet policies in the cabin to ensure the safety of your dog.
