The Chicago Cubs have placed right-handed pitcher Colten Brewer on the 60-day disabled list with a fractured left hand. Brewer injured himself Saturday by punching the dugout wall in frustration after a rough outing against the Los Angeles Angels.

Brewer entered the game in the third inning to relieve starter Kyle Hendricks with the Cubs up 2-0. Unfortunately, Brewer got just two outs and was charged with three runs (one earned) on two hits, two walks and a hit batter. The Angels eventually defeated the Cubs 7-0.
“My intention was not to break my hand,” Brewer told reporters Sunday. “I got frustrated and made a mistake. That's no excuse. There's a lot I can prove, that I'm willing not to do things like that. Emotions get the best of us sometimes.”
Brewer, a six-year veteran in his first season with the Cubs, has made 16 relief appearances this year. The 31-year-old pitcher has no decisions, a 5.66 ERA, one save and one shutout, with 22 strikeouts and nine walks.
Manager Craig Counsell commented on the incident, saying, “When these things happen, you know you made a mistake. That was the conversation. Then there are consequences for the mistakes he makes. It's an unfortunate mistake, and he let that emotions got the better of him. It's not who he is, but it's a mistake he made.”
