There are few things more despicable than a criminal who feels no remorse for his actions, except, perhaps, a criminal who screams in the face of his victim's widow.
That's exactly what happened when a Florida man's cruelty spilled over again, this time in a courtroom as he was sentenced to life in prison for murder. The killer, Omar Rodriguez, was convicted of second-degree murder and aggravated assault in the 2015 killing of his neighbor, Jose Rey. During the reading of a statement from Rey's wife, Lissette, Rodriguez rudely interrupted her, disparaging her late husband and mocking her loss.

“The coward was your husband,” the killer shouted at the woman. “That's why I killed him…he cried like a baby.”
Law enforcement removed the killer from the room as he continued to scream at the grieving widow. Just before the shocking display of inhumanity, Lissette had pleaded with the judge to throw the book at Rodriguez.
“I pray to your honor, the harshest sentence imposed on the coward, the murderer,” he said.
Once the disgraced murderer was drug out of the courtroom, she finished her statement and called him a “tin scum” for good measure.
“I wish, however, that the death sentence had been on the table, but in the end, Mr. RodrÃguez will continue to see his family, they will be able to see him, I will never be able to see my husband. again I wasn't listening to exactly what he was saying, I was tuning him out, he was just reading my thoughts. His words are irrelevant. He is irrelevant in my life right now. It's tin scum.”
Rodriguez, who is 75, will spend the rest of his life behind bars for murdering Rey. The incident began when Rey and Rodriguez's son got into a verbal altercation over the victim's dog defecating on the man's lawn. Neighbors report hearing the fight, but Rey left the scene and returned her dog to the house before continuing her walk with Lissette. At that point, the killer confronted them with a gun, fired three shots at the deceased and threatened the widow. Rey succumbed to her injuries a week later.
Rodriguez tried to use Florida's “Stand Your Ground” law as a defense, but that was quickly determined to have none of the markers of a self-defense case.
