Congressman says DOJ intentionally tried to bury threats on Trump's life

Claiming much more than alleged election interference, a Florida congressman blasted the Biden-Harris administration for trying to “bury” Iranian threats against former President Donald Trump.

Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, the Islamist regime seemed to have picked its favorite for the 2024 elections and was pulling out all the stops to get the desired result. That was the conclusion of Florida Rep. Michael Waltz (R) when he accused the White House of covering up “ongoing” threats against the GOP leader.

“You have multiple assassination plots by the Iranians,” he told host Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures” on Fox News. “This Pakistani was recruiting women as observers. He had recruited hitmen and made a down payment. He was even recruiting protesters as a distraction.”

“However, the Justice Department, when they brought the indictment, didn't even name Trump as a target. They tried to soft-pedal it and just say, oh, he was a politician. So, it was not an isolated incident in Butler, PA,” said the congressman, who brought the July 13 assassination attempt into the mix of a larger plot against the Republican presidential nominee.

On Tuesday, an indictment from a New York court was unsealed this showed that Asif Merchant, a 46-year-old Pakistani citizen, was charged with a “murder-for-hire” plot targeting Trump. A statement by FBI Director Christopher Wray referred to it as “straight out of the Iranian playbook,” as he noted: “A foreign-directed plot to kill a public official, or any American citizen, is a threat to our national security and will be met with the full power and resources of the FBI.”

Waltz was unconvinced as he charged, “These Iran plots are ongoing. And when [President Joe] Biden says nothing, [Vice President Kamala] Harris says nothing, DOJ tries to bury it, what message is Iran getting? They understand that we can keep trying to get Trump out and not have consequences.”

“They tried to hack his campaign or they hacked it this week. They're trying to kill him. And we know from the intelligence community that Iran doesn't want Trump back,” he added.

The informed The hack was said to have included the transmission of a 271-page document to corporate media outlets believed to analyze material used to select Ohio Sen. JD Vance as Trump's running mate. A statement from Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung said: “These documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources hostile to the United States, with the intent to interfere with the 2024 election and sow chaos in the throughout our democratic process”.

“The Iranians know that President Trump will end his reign of terror just as he did in his first four years in the White House,” Cheung added.

That terror, Waltz noted, included the recent hospitalization of six soldiers who were admitted in critical condition after an attack.

“Why?” the congressman asked rhetorically about Iran's opposition to another Trump administration. “He held them accountable. And you top that with, how have Biden and Harris treated Iran? Well, Iran knows they're sympathizers.”

A statement from the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations to the New York Post denied any involvement in efforts to affect the outcome of the US presidential election, “Iran is not involved in any objective or activity intended to influence the American elections”.

Meanwhile, as Bartiromo pointed out, little has been publicly revealed about Trump's would-be assassin since weeks earlier, in contrast to the known details about a terrorist threat at Taylor Swift's concerts.
