“Cockpit” among words too offensive for the friendly skies. Here are some other ridiculous new triggers.

The pervasive taint of globalism that brings DEI to friendly skies was revealed in a language guide for pilots that rejected common terms about concerns for “women, transgender people, and people with different gender identities.”

“Inclusive language … is an important factor in maintaining flight safety.”

Under Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Americans have struggled with confidence in the airline industry due to mass flight cancellations, rising costs and doors being ripped off the fuselage mid-flight. However, a look at the “Inclusive Language Reference Guide” from the world's largest pilot union was no encouragement to reluctant flyers that their priorities were in order.

Launched in April 2021, the Airline Pilots Association, Int'l (ALPA), representing nearly 80,000 pilots worldwide, offered guidance which focused on the use of pronouns, stereotyping and avoiding “male generalities”, stating: “Inclusive language in communications is essential to the solidarity and collective strength of our union and is a factor important to maintain flight safety.”

“The purpose of this language guide is to provide examples of terms and phrases that promote inclusion and equity,” ALPA noted as it criticized the use of the term “cabin” and said it should be replaced for “flight deck” as above. “It has been and can be used derogatorily to exclude women from the pilot profession.”

“Many women have heard a variation of 'It's called the cockpit for a reason' by a male pilot, suggesting that women do not belong in the piloting profession,” the guide read. “The intention behind the use of the word is important.”

Other Fox News Digital syndicate taboo terms reported works with the United Nations on its policies including “manpower”, “boys”, “mother” and “father”.

“Who will provide the people/manpower to support this event?” was offered as an example of the replacement of “manpower”, while the term “boys” was criticized because “some people can feel left out, especially in an environment that includes women, transgender people and people with different gender identities”.

Gendered terms for parents were criticized as potentially alienating “different family structures, such as grandparents as caregivers, same-sex parents”.

Even the use of the pronoun “he” in generic descriptions was considered inappropriate in the same sense.

“Diversity has nothing to do with safe travel,” said Kyle Bailey, the former representative of the Federal Aviation Administration's security team on Fox Business Network in January. “Basically it's all about flight time, your credentials, your background, how much flying experience you have and also your training.”

“Regardless of the proposed recruitment practices that are put in place, the bottom line is that … piloting is basically a male occupation. You don't find girls when they're 10 years old saying, 'Hey, I want to be an airline pilot of airplanes' or playing with model airplanes or flying model airplanes,” he argued. “It's pretty much a man's game, whether you like it or not.”

Meanwhile, a 2019 piece in the Wall Street Journal made it clear that the term “cockpit” had nothing to do with biology, as ironic uses might suggest. Rather, it dates back to cockfighting in the 16th century.

Sailors on British warships were reminded of the bird fighting area by referring to the area designated for a ship's surgeon as a cabin, “The confined space, the noise, the blood and the foul air obviously reminded people of the original cabins.”

Early pilots would be reminded of these areas when they named their control area the cockpit, something the diversity, equity and inclusion crowd can ponder the next time they the engine starts.
