CNN's legal analyst says the judge is taking a “very good look” at disqualifying Fani Willis

-

CNN Senior Legal Analyst Elie Honig said a judge faces a boundary decision on whether to disqualify Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis from her election interference case against former President Donald Trump trump

Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee held a two-day hearing audition in early February to determine whether Willis should be disqualified from the case over allegations that he benefited financially by appointing his romantic partner Nathan Wade as special prosecutor. McAfee Monday orderly Wade's former partner and former divorce attorney Terrence Bradley to testify about the special counsel's relationship with Willis after determining that some of Wade's conversations with him are not protected by attorney-client privilege despite earlier claims.

I WILL SEE:

The decision to order Bradley's testimony shows the judge is seriously weighing the decision to disqualify her, Honig said on “CNN Newsroom With Jim Acosta.”

“The fact that the judge listens to this lawyer, Mr. [Bradley]he tells me later today that the judge is taking a very hard look at this,” Honig said. “The judge had several opportunities if he just wanted to get this over with. He didn't have to hold the hearing at all. The office of the prosecutor did not want Mr. [Bradley] not at all, but the judge has said we will have a hearing. It will be public and now listen to this former lawyer of Mr. Wade. So it's a very close call in my estimation based on what we've seen. Clearly, the DA showed poor judgment.”

Both of us Willis i Wade testified that the special prosecutor did not spend any nights in his apartment, however phone records referenced in a court filing Friday suggests he was in her neighborhood at least 35 times in 2021.

Robin Yeartie, who used to be close friends with Willis and formerly worked in the district attorney's office, witnessed during the hearing that Willis' relationship with Wade began shortly after they met at a conference in 2019. Yeartie's testimony contradict court documents that claim the romance began after Wade's contract began in 2022.

Wade and Willis could face disbarment and charges if McAfee rules they lied under oath about phone records, legal experts say he said the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“The biggest issue now is that Fani Willis and Nathan Wade have testified and sworn under oath that their romantic relationship did not begin until after Nathan Wade joined this case,” Honig said. “If this turns out to be true, that should put an end to this problem. But if this turns out to be false, there will be major problems for Nathan Wade and Fani Willis.”
