CNN's data guru says one man on Harris' VP list has a major asset

-

CNN data reporter Harry Enten said Tuesday that a vice presidential nominee is a “runaway winner” who could give Vice President Kamala Harris an electoral boost in her presidential race.

Several figures are reportedly being considered as Harris' running mate, seconds on CBS, but Enten said Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania stood out for his potential to help his party carry a swing state.

Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Democratic Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona are among those considered running mates for the vice president following President Joe Biden's decision to throw his candidacy for re-election. Shapiro could be an asset based on how well he did in the 2022 gubernatorial election, compared to Biden's vote share at the top of the 2020 presidential election.

I WILL SEE:

“I think it's important, look at their home states, the people who know them best, to understand, OK, how popular these guys can be,” Enten told the “CNN News Central” co-anchor. Kate Bolduan. “This is what beat Biden's 2020 margin in his last election, all these guys ran in 2022 and the only name on that list is Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania. Look at this. He beat Biden in 14 points oh my goodness look how big it is Sometimes I think an answer is to look yourself in the face and in this particular case Josh Shapiro is looking you right in the face.

Shapiro defeated Doug Mastriano in the 2022 gubernatorial election, garnering 56.5% of the vote. seconds to the politician

“Look, Mark Kelly's not too bad either, right? He beat Biden by five points and mind you, he was running in a federal race that's not all apples and apples, right, with a statewide gubernatorial race Enten continued. “But still five points, not bad, they beat every other Democrat in Arizona. Tim Walz, who seems to have gotten some kind of momentum on social media. But look at this, he only beat Biden by 0.6 points very much on a different planet than we put Josh Shapiro, who is the clear runaway winner of this particular metric.

Former President Donald Trump leads Harris by 1.7% in a national head-to-head matchup. seconds in the Real Clear Polling average from July 5-25, with Trump leading growing up to 1.8% when Green Party candidate Dr. Jill Stein and independent presidential candidates Cornel West and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are included in the surveys. In Pennsylvania, Trump leads Harris by 3% in a head to head career, with leadership falling to 0.3% when Kennedy, Stein and West are included.
