CNN's data guru says Kamala Harris is winning over 'double haters'

-

CNN data reporter Harry Enten said Thursday that Vice President Kamala Harris is expanding the Democratic lead among voters who expressed dislike for both former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, citing polls in the battleground states.

New York Times/Siena College surveys Voters in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin released Saturday showed Harris with a four-point lead over the former Trump in those swing states. Enten said Trump was competing with Biden among voters who expressed dislike for both candidates, but that support for Harris has widened the deficit since he joined the race.

“Okay, let's take a look at the double haters. As you pointed out, these are people who don't like Joe Biden and Donald Trump, and I want you to look at their voting patterns, who they want for president.” , Enten told “CNN News Central” co-anchor John Berman. “Now we go back to June. What we saw was that 28% of those people were going for Joe Biden compared to 19% who said they were going for Donald Trump.

“Now that Kamala Harris is the Democratic nominee, look at their support among them. Look at this, 53% say Kamala Harris, look at that jump, that's a 25-point jump. Donald Trump has gone down the other way to 11 points,” Enten continued. “And now we're looking at, what's that, John? That's a 42-point lead among people who don't like Joe Biden and Donald Trump for Kamala Harris compared to just this nine-point lead that Joe Biden had in June .That, of course, is a substantial part of the electorate. Before Kamala Harris came in, that would be the group that was going to determine one way or the other, and it may still be, and if so, Kamala Harris has this huge lead over this key bloc in the election.”

Harris assured the Democratic nomination shortly after Biden fell down out of the race on July 21. By the time Biden ended his bid, he was leading Trump by 3.1% in a national head-to-head matchup, seconds in the RealClearPolling average, with Trump leading expanding to 4.2% when Green Party candidate Dr. Jill Stein and independent presidential candidates Cornel West and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were included in the surveys.

“Again, what we've seen in the last few weeks, are these big changes in the polls that you don't normally see, at least right now, but this is a giant increase in a very short amount of time,” Berman said.

“It turns out that picking a candidate who's actually pretty close to having an equal net favorability score, which is favorable minus unfavorable, is a pretty good thing rather than one who has a negative net favorability, like Joe Biden did Enten added. .

Harris has a 0.9% lead in a national head-to-head matchup with Trump. seconds in the RealClearPolling polling average from July 30 to August 14. the gap increases to 1.0% when Stein, Kennedy and West are included in the polls.
