CNN panel jokes that Democrats may attack Trump on age now that Biden is out

A CNN panel on Friday laughed and joked about Democrats' ability to bash former President Donald Trump because of his age now that they've replaced President Joe Biden at the top of the ticket.

trump is 78 years old, while the Democratic candidate, vice president Kamala Harrishe is 59 years old. CNN political commentator Bakari Sellers, on “CNN News Central,” called Trump “diminished,” and host Kate Bolduan said that regardless of Trump's fitness, it's a talking point that now benefits the democrats

“It is diminished. And I think if you look at a picture or a message from Donald Trump in 2016 compared to the message you saw yesterday, you're seeing somebody who's 78 years old,” Sellers said. “And we all have grandparents who are aging in front of us or parents who are aging. before our eyes, and some of the things just don't click like they used to. This is not the Donald Trump of eight years ago, not only that, but his material is getting old and stale.”

“I think voters are realizing that as the oldest person in the history of this country to run for president of the United States, you're looking at a very diminished man,” he said later in the segment.

A majority of voters, including Democrats, expressed concern about Biden's age and fitness in April, with a Pew survey survey finding that 65% of respondents had “little or no confidence” in this Biden had the physical ability to lead the country, while only 40% believed the same of Trump.

“And no matter what the reality is, the political strategy to say that now works in the Democrats' favor,” Bolduan said.

“I like using that talking point, actually,” Sellers replied, laughing, with Bolduan noting he's “happy to use it” and the commentator saying “It's refreshing.”

CNN political commentator Alyssa Farah Griffin could also be seen and heard on screen laughing at his jokes.

Trump suggested during a Thursday press conference that his Jan. 6, 2021 rally crowd was larger than Martin Luther King Jr.'s “I Have a Dream” speech, NBC News informed.

“Dr. King is like… why am I in this? I'm up here chilling with Jesus… Let me chill,” Sellers joked at one point during Friday's segment, prompting Bolduan to laugh.

“There is no politics in my laughter. It was a lot of fun,” he said.

Jon Stewart, host of “Daily Show”. was shouting Sellers in July for “gas lighting” insisting that Biden's problem is “age” rather than “cognitive decline.”

“If you look at his performance in 2020 compared to his performance in 2024, there's an inexorable decline. It's undeniable. So what I don't understand is, OK, well, it stays, but deal with it head on. Stop pretending, stop gaslighting,” Stewart said.

Sellers said it's “fine” to talk about Biden's cognitive competence and not “gaslight” about it, but said it's a higher priority to focus on Trump, whom he described as “a fucking monster.” .
