CNN's Tom Foreman took Minnesota Democratic Gov. Tim Walz to task Wednesday for his claims about carrying weapons in combat.
Foreman, who appeared on “CNN News Central” with Brianna Keilar, challenged Walz's claims while talking about gun control.

Foreman dismissed Walz's claims as unsupported, saying there is “no evidence” the governor has ever faced combat situations. “Walz has suggested in several speeches that he carried weapons in a combat environment,” Foreman explained. “However, from my military background and given the facts, there is no evidence that Walz was ever in a situation where he was actually shot. His language may lead people to think otherwise.” .
Foreman continued: “The campaign's defense is typical: They argue that Walz's long career should absolve him of any intentional misrepresentation. However, this issue highlights a broader concern about the authenticity of the military claims in political debates”.
That controversy drew attention when Walz, in a 2018 campaign video, suggested that the weapons he used in the war should be banned. “We can make sure that these weapons of war, which I took to war, are the only place where these weapons are found,” Walz said.
Gov. @Tim_Walz: I spent 25 years in the Army and I hunt. I have been voting for common sense legislation that protects the Second Amendment, but we can check the background. Walz's campaign responded, stating that Walz would “never insult or undermine the service of any American” despite repeated acts of stolen value.

Republican candidate JD Vance also chimed in, calling Walz's claims “dishonest” and questioning the credibility of his military service statements.
.@JDVance SORCA Tim Walz for leaving his unit: When the US Marine Corps asked me to go to Iraq to serve my country, I did. I am very proud of this service.
When Tim Walz was asked to go to Iraq, he left the Army and allowed his unit to go without him.
