Everyone has the right to their opinion and can write whatever they want about it. Conversely, we are also allowed to argue against what they have posted if we disagree, and I disagree with Christianity todaythe recent Oliver Anthony article that took offense to Oliver Anthony’s song, “Rich Men North of Richmond.”

Specifically, the author disliked the lines in which Anthony criticizes obese people on welfare buying “candy rounds” while others starve on the streets. is it hard May be. But I think Anthony wasn’t attacking everyone on welfare, just those who shouldn’t be but are taking advantage of the system.

I’m not alone:

Here is the letter from the author Christianity today I didn’t like:

Sir, we have people in the street, we have nothing to eat
And the welfare of the obese milker
Well, my goodness, if you’re 5-foot-3 and 300 pounds
Taxes shouldn’t pay for your bags of candy rounds

The story reveals the author’s personal past experience with being on food stamps, which is why she doesn’t like the song. That’s all right. What I take exception to is that she says other Christians shouldn’t like it either.

This is not your concern. This is not a biblical issue just because it has been offended. Then again, if Anthony went after EVERYONE who needed help, that would be one thing. But he singled out morbidly obese people who used taxpayer funds to buy unhealthy food. I see nothing unbiblical about this notion.

Oliver Anthony’s song is not among the top 10,000 issues facing this nation and the world from a biblical perspective. A Christian publication and author might want to address real issues instead of fabricating one over the lyrics of a song they don’t like.
