Chris Cuomo responded to criticism after he appeared to laugh during an interview with someone who has Tourette's syndrome.
The former CNN host spoke with TikTok star and social media content creator Baylen Dupree on NewsNation's “Cuomo” to raise awareness about the neurological disorder that manifests itself in tics, involuntary sounds and verbal outbursts , often profane.
In the uncensored interview, the 21-year-old called Cuomo a “fat**,” telling him, “F** k off, ** k off, *** k off” and “F** k off” you Chris!”
She spun him around as she tried to maintain her composure during the four-minute segment. Finally, it seemed that Cuomo could no longer contain his laughter and seemed to lose it on air.

In the ongoing verbal exchange, Dupree called Cuomo a “little baby: a banana up your ass**” before telling him to “spread your own cookie, you fat**!”
No sooner had the so-called interview finished than Cuomo lit up on social media. Many X users called him out for making fun of someone with the disorder, while others ripped him for not being more professional.
But Cuomo had an answer for his critics as he spoke to viewers about the encounter with Dupree.
“Last night we made a story. It was a bit risky. People weren't sure we could do it because there would be a lot of cursing and Dusty and I didn't care at all,” he said.

“And we were right. Because? Baylen Dupree has gone viral and for good reason. We were delighted to give her a platform to fight the stigma of having Tourette's syndrome,” Cuomo continued.
“Too much is mean and judged, people have shamed and recorded her because she has unusual tics. Her tics are like sentences, repetitive and often vulgar,” she said.
“Then Baylen decided 'I'm not going to be held hostage by other people's thoughts about me.' She took to TikTok to live her truth and now has 9 million followers. She's getting paid for what some see as a problem.” , Cuomo told viewers.
“She's giving purpose to her pain and I love all the coverage she's getting, and the coverage shows us something,” he added as he continued to read some of the headlines that were shunning him for his on-air reaction.
“They say I laughed at her, that's what it suggests. Because? Because that's bad, and the medium is clickbait,” he said.
“And biting myself in the back is what makes them money, but it's also what feeds the instinct to be nasty in the first place,” he continued, slamming the media.
“If you're going to distort what it's about, the kid didn't come on my show to curse at me, he's a tic. It's not a date. It's not intentional,” he said. “And by the way, most of the things he said about me are true. So it goes to show that's our inclination: being nasty sells.”
