Celine Dion, 56, insisted on showing pictures of herself having a seizure her new documentary, “I Am: Celine Dion.”
The “My Heart Will Go On” singer, WHO suffers from a rare autoimmune neurological disorder called Stiff Person Syndrome which has interfered with his ability to sing, is shown doing a physical therapy session in 2022.
On a massage table, she seems convulsed and writhing in pain, moaning in agony as medical workers attend to her.
Then a man asks, “Do you want us to take out the cameras?”
But the Grammy-winning singer is shown saying: “I'm fine.”
The director of the documentary, Irene Taylor, he told Yahoo that Dion “didn't want anything to change” after seeing that footage.
“His therapist saw [medical] episode coming, and within 30 seconds there was no going back. We just responded as fast as we could. We really couldn't move from that corner of the room. He was carrying a microphone [and used it] to measure whether he was breathing or not,” Taylor explained.
She added: “It was very upsetting. Very upsetting. I know it's hard for some viewers, it was hard for me too. But I will tell you, Céline felt validated by looking like that, and she thought it would help her if other people could understand what [SPS] it's like.”
On screen, Dion tells the camera, “Every time something like this happens, it makes you feel so embarrassed, and so, like, I don't know how to put it, it's just… you know, I like not having control over yourself…”
He added that he has not given up on his career dreams.
“I can still see myself dancing and singing. I always find plan B and plan C, you know. This is me. If I can't run, I'll walk. If I can't walk, I'll crawl. But I won't stop. I won't stop.”
Dion's condition has caused her to withdraw from the public eye, although she has made a few brief appearances, how to attend the 2024 Grammys and the premiere of his documentary earlier this month.
The director told Yahoo! that she and Dion “never had a conversation” before filming about what they would do if Dion had a health problem on camera.
“I really thought it was so unlikely that it wasn't even a conversation we needed to have,” Taylor said, adding that “months could go by” without Dion having an incident.
“If it happens, [Céline] He told me over and over, “Don't ask me for permission to film, just keep shooting and we can talk about it later.” ”
He said Dion watched the film with the three children she had with late husband René Angélil: René-Charles, 23, and twins Nelson and Eddy, 13.
“[Céline] He used the film as a teaching tool with them, so he could show them how deeply he feels about his situation and how much can happen to his body if he goes into an episode of the rigid person,” Taylor said. .
“I Am: Celine Dion” arrives on Prime Video on June 25.
