In Mangaf, southern Kuwait, tragedy struck early Wednesday when a devastating fire engulfed a building used to house workers, killing at least 35 people, senior police officials said in statements in the state media.
The distressing incident was brought to the attention of the authorities at 06:00 local time (03:00 GMT), as Major General Eid Rashed Hamad relayed the details of the catastrophic event.

“The building that was engulfed in fire served as a residence for the workers, hosting a significant number of people. Although many were successfully rescued, unfortunately many lost their lives due to smoke inhalation from the fire,” another senior police official shared in an interview on state television.

Emphasizing a long-standing concern, the police chief warned against overcrowding in worker accommodation facilities, stressing the potentially dire consequences of such practices. However, no specific information was disclosed about the nature of the workers' employment or their origins.

Kuwait's health ministry revealed that approximately 43 people were hospitalized following the fire, with four tragic fatalities among those hospitalized. It was not clear if the four deaths were included in the 35 fatalities previously reported by law enforcement.
Amid the devastating aftermath, authorities confirmed the fire had been successfully contained, with investigations ongoing to determine the cause of the catastrophic blaze.
