A cartoonist who criticized Hamas terrorists for using children as human shields and was censored by the Washington Post has hit back after the left-wing paper “regrettably” canceled his work.
Michael Ramirez, who works for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, has a collaboration agreement with the WaPo, but the cartoon, titled “Human Shields” was pulled after it was deemed offensive by “woke” whiners who have overwhelmingly sided with the Islamists. savages who carried out acts of primitive barbarism in the butchery of Israeli civilians, including women, children and babies during last month’s sneak attack on the Jewish state.
The cartoon depicted the spokesman for the terrorist organization Hamas with several small children tied to him while a woman in a burka hides behind him and says “How dare Israel attack civilians”, an image that prompted the usual howls about “racism” and “Islamophobia” from the Jew-hating left.
The Washington Post deleted and apologized for this editorial cartoon by Michael Ramirez.

“I think it’s empirically true that Hamas uses civilians, both Palestinians and Israelis, as human shields,” the cartoonist said. he said Fox News Digital Friday.
“I don’t think it’s hidden knowledge that they operate their bases in densely populated areas and under civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, launch rockets from densely residential areas and, by design, sacrifice the lives of innocent people,” Ramirez said. he said, noting the group’s practice of using civilians as cover.
The paper not only pulled the cartoon, but issued a bemused apology to its overly sensitive readers.

“A cartoon we published by Michael Ramírez about the war in Gaza, a cartoon whose publication I approved, was seen by many readers as racist. This was not my intention. I saw the cartoon as a caricature of a specific individual, the Hamas spokesman who celebrated attacks on unarmed civilians in Israel,” read the apology from David Shipley, the paper’s opinion editor.
“However, the reaction to the image convinced me that I had missed something deep and divisive, and I regret it. Our section is meant to find common ground, to understand the bonds that hold us together, even in the darkest of times,” Shipley said.
According to Fox News Digital, Shipley “chose the anti-Hamas cartoon after the cartoonist gave him several options to choose from,” and Ramirez predicted that the cartoon “will elicit some kind of visceral reaction from some based on the current political climate, but suggested those who claim to defend innocent Palestinians “have a tendency to blur the lines” when it comes to Hamas, the outlet reported.
“In this case, we both thought it was a bold cartoon,” Ramirez said, telling the press that Shipley “begged” him not to resign over the decision to censor the provocative work.
“He knew I wasn’t happy about it … And he begged me not to let it go,” she said. “And honestly, I thought about the consequences of that. If I quit, the cancellation culture people win because they basically exorcise the Washington Post from my cartoon, and I didn’t want to give them that luxury.”
“So I told David that I would do two more cartoons for the Washington Post and just see how it went and then reassess our relationship,” she added.
The artist said he liked the editor and respected his efforts to “broaden The Washington Post to accommodate a greater variety of viewpoints,” calling the censorship of the Hamas mockery “unfortunate” .
“I think David resisted the idea of doing this initially. And he apologized profusely to me for doing that,” he said, adding that he’s glad the cartoon has sparked a debate about the “systematic undermining of Freedom of expression”.
“I want an open debate. I think America is better, more extraordinary because of it,” Ramirez said.
