A shocking video out of Canada shows a journalist being forcibly arrested while trying to do his job.
Rebel News reporter David Menzies was brutally shoved and surrounded by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police after he tried to ask Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland a question on the street.
“I came here to do my job, and now I'm in handcuffs,” Menzies said of the brazen arrest.
Menzies approached Freeland on Monday in the Toronto suburb of Richmond Hill, according to Rebel News. He asked about Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and why they have not been listed as a terrorist group by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government. This came as a vigil was being held on the fourth anniversary of the downing of Flight PS752, which was shot down by the Iranian military, killing nearly 200 people, including 55 Canadians.
As the reporter walked with Freeland for an answer, he was pulled aside as he tried to push past the RCMP officer who appeared to push a shocked Menzies before declaring, “You're under arrest for assault!”
“How am I detained? You bumped into me!” the reporter replied, struggling to free himself from the group.
The scuffle continued, with Menzies questioning why he was being detained and arrested, demanding the officer's name and badge number to no avail.
“Welcome to Blackface Canada,” Menzies said, referring to Trudeau, as he was handcuffed. “This is what they do with journalists. I was just scrumming Minister Freeland.
“This is your Canada now folks. This is the Gestapo taking orders from Blackface. Outrageous. And meanwhile, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is not a terrorist organization,” he added.
True North's Andrew Lawton gave a breakdown account of what could be seen in the now-viral video, sharing to X that “you can see a police officer standing where he knows David Menzies is walking.”
“You can see Menzies pivot away from the post and the officer, who then puts out an arm to stop him. The same officer arrests Menzies for assaulting a police officer. This is flagrant range,” he added.
Rebel News co-founder, owner and CEO Ezra Levant promised a lawsuit is coming.

Tomorrow we are suing the RCMP for false arrest, false imprisonment and assault.

Lawton later posted to X, confirming that the reporter was released without charges.
They have confirmed that Menzies was released without charge.

The video of the incident, which has been viewed more than 3.5 million times, even caught the attention of X owner Elon Musk, who responded to someone who pointed out that Menzies was “ falsely arrested on a false charge.”
It sure seems that way. It's fine for the officer to physically block someone trying to approach a senior government official, but it's false to say that he deliberately assaulted an officer.

Levant, for his part, observed on Tuesday how journalism advocacy groups and the media seemed to be mum on the incident.
You have just registered @cancivlib. Not a beat from them about the arrest and assault of David Menzies. They have other “civil liberties” priorities, mainly transgender.

The Independent Press Gallery of Canada was “shocked” to see the journalist “arrested for assaulting a police officer despite video evidence showing nothing.”
“The police are there to uphold the law and public safety, not to prevent reporters from asking politicians questions that the government won't allow to be asked in official settings,” Lawton, president of the Independent Press Gallery, said in a statement. asking “the police, especially those charged with protecting elected officials, to stop the practice of arresting working journalists who do not pose a threat to public safety or break the law.”
The outrage on social media was palpable and there will no doubt be more on the story in the coming days.
Now the courts will have to go back and investigate all the charges this RCMP was involved in and all the court testimony that resulted in Canadians being jailed for their questionable conduct.
I think a good lawyer could show that his testimony is not credible. https://t.co/770Wr5PPeI

These cops are liars and everything is on tape.
The policeman who took David wasn't even in uniform and didn't identify himself before beating him.
Chrystia never talks about the script. She doesn't know how. He just walks around with that smug look on his face. Disgusting

“Assault”? Since he clearly accidentally bumped into an unidentified man who got in his way on PURPOSE! And he even apologized and said sorry. The officer involved must forfeit his badge. period And all on video

In basketball this is called a block and it is chicken.
In real life, this guy is unmarked (not wearing a badge), he's obviously in the way of the reporters as the reporter looks away, both Chrystia and her aide moved out of the way as if they hoped that this…
