California follows Colorado, seeks to block Trump from state ballot

-

It was inevitable that the Colorado Supreme Court's unprecedented ruling to block former Republican front-runner Donald J. Trump from the ballot would spark copycat efforts in blue states, and California is looking to be next.

On Wednesday, California Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis sent a letter to Secretary of State Shirley Weber urging her to find a way to remove Trump from the ballot in time for next year's election .

Citing the ruling by four left-leaning Colorado judges, Kounalakis wrote, “I urge you to explore all legal options to remove former President Donald Trump from the 2024 California presidential primary ballot.”

“I am encouraged by the Colorado Supreme Court's recent ruling that former President Donald Trump is ineligible to appear on the state's ballot as a presidential candidate because of his role in inciting an insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on 6 of January 2021. This decision is about honoring the rule of law in our country and protecting the fundamental pillars of our democracy”, he stated.

“California needs to get on the right side of history. California is obligated to determine whether Trump is ineligible for the California vote for the same reasons outlined in Anderson,” Kounalakis insisted. “The Colorado decision may be the basis for a similar decision here in our state. The constitution is clear: you must be 40 years old and not an insurrectionist,” he wrote, demonstrating his ignorance of the nation's founding document by incorrectly exceeding the age requirement by five years.

“In my opinion, everything about Donald Trump has been tremendously unfortunate, when you have a president who is constantly ignoring the rule of law, constantly saying the rule of law doesn't apply to him,” Kounalakis told KCRA without giving any concrete example to support his wild claim. “Well, here's a moment where the Colorado Supreme Court says yes it does apply to you and it's in the US Constitution that insurgents can't be on the ballot.”

“This is essentially the rule of law working as intended,” the Democratic Party apparatchik continued. “So whether it's in Colorado or California or any other state, this is really something that I think every state needs to seriously ask.”

Now that the Colorado court has handed down its anti-Democrat ruling, it's become clear why the term “insurgency” has been repeatedly hammered by Democrats, their Never Trump allies like Liz Cheney and the media, and Tucker Carlson sum up in a short video he posted on X Wednesday.

“There will be the inevitable political criticism of the decision to remove Trump from the ballot. But this is not a political game. This is a terrible matter that puts the sanctity of our constitution and our democracy at stake,” he said. write the lieutenant governor in his letter.

“Time is of the essence as your announcement of the certified slate of candidates for the March 5, 2024 primary election will occur next week on December 28, 2023,” Kounalakis urged Weber in his letter, putting the secretary of state under the responsibility. pressure to move quickly.
