Florida Republican Rep. Byron Donalds fired back at CNN anchor Kate Bolduan as she asked her about Republican nominee Donald Trump's age during a segment Wednesday.
Bolduan repeatedly pressed Donald on whether Trump, 78, age has been a source of concern for Republicans since President Joe Biden, who is 81, dropped out of the race on July 21. Donalds argued that Harris' past political record during her time as senator and vice president is the real concern of the 2024 presidential race.
“If you look at Kamala Harris for the first 24 days that we've seen, she won't answer questions, she won't talk to your network or any other network,” Donalds began, followed by Bolduan's rebuttal that Donalds' response didn't matter to the question of Trump's age. “She doesn't have specific policies, no, no, but it does matter, and let me explain. If she doesn't answer questions, blunt questions about her record and what she's going to do, don't fluff about the joy and moving forward and freedom. We're talking about the real policy and political issues that will affect the American people. It's nowhere to be seen.”
“But do you think when she sits in interviews and sets policy, do you think that's going to make people think she's too old to be president? I'm trying to walk the line here,” Bolduan asked.

Donalds argued that Harris' “ability and competence” to lead the US and enact effective policies are in question.
“No, it's not about his age. It's about his ability and competence to lead our country forward. What will his economic agenda be? Will it be different from Joe Biden? I don't think so,” he said.
Donalds noted Harris' tendency to do so flip flop in the main political positions throughout his political career. While in the Senate, Harris co-sponsored the Green New Deal in 2019 and supported removing the Senate filibuster to pass the legislation. In addition, the Vice President said cosign Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' “Medicare for All” bill in the Senate, but now she's trying to paint herself as a moderate candidate.
“So what I'm saying is not about age, it's about being a candidate for political and economic change to help our country prosper whether you're black or white, rich or poor, middle-income, it doesn't matter. That person is Donald J. Trump, not Kamala Harris,” Donalds said.
A Marquette University School of Law survey As of Aug. 7, it found that 57 percent of voters believe Trump is “too old” to run for president, while 13 percent said the same for Harris. The survey polled 879 participants between July 24 and August. 1, 2024, with a margin of error of 4.1.
A series of surveys found that more voters were concerned about Biden's age than Trump's. A news item from Gallup survey of June 27 found that 67% of voters believed Biden was too old to be president, while 37% said the same for Trump.
After the June 27 debate, a CBS News/YouGov survey found 50% of voters believed Trump had the cognitive ability to be president, while 72% believed Biden lacked the cognitive ability.
Harris doesn't participated in a single interview since launching his campaign on July 21, sparking a backlash among conservatives. The vice president has not yet made a detailed proposal of her own politics plans and does not list any potential policy proposals about it campaign website.
