Technological entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy he is now tied with the governor of Florida Ron DeSantis for second place in the Republican presidential race, revealed a new poll released Thursday by Kaplan Strategies.
Ramaswamy He has seen his support surge of late, but he and DeSantis remain dozens of points behind longtime front-runner Donald Trump.
According to the poll, both Ramaswamy and DeSantis are sitting at 12 percent support among likely Republican voters. Trump still holds a significant lead, at 48 percent.
The poll found that while DeSantis was rated “favorably” by 59 percent of respondents, voters were less sure about political newcomer Ramaswamy, who received an uncertain rating of 27 percent.
A total of 800 people were surveyed across the country between July 17 and 18 via the web and text messages.
Doug Kaplan, founder of Kaplan Strategies, noted that Ramaswamy “outperformed the other six contenders by more than twice as much,” calling the result a “major surprise.”
He predicted that as the primaries approach, “we’re likely to see lower-tier candidates drop out and their voters either go back to Trump or rally behind rising stars like Ramaswamy or DeSantis.”
Ramaswamy’s jump in the polls comes after a widely celebrated performance at the Family Leadership Summit in Iowa on Friday.
Ramaswamy promised to dismantle the administrative state, defend the southern border, and defend the values that made America the country it is today.
He also touched on non-political issues, suggesting at one point that America was suffering from a “spiritual void.”
“It’s our job to step up and fill that void by practicing what we preach as conservatives,” he said.
The next day, a straw survey was held at the Turning Point Action Conference in West Palm Beach, Florida. Although Trump received 85 percent of the vote, Ramaswamy managed to edge out DeSantis, with more than 50 percent saying they would choose him as their second choice.
This is a breaking story and will be updated.
