Now that Vice President Kamala Harris has been crowned as Joe Biden's replacement as the Democratic nominee, attention is turning to who will be her running mate with a candidate dropping out.
North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper announced he was withdrawing from consideration of the bottom half of the historic “Kamalot” ticket, one that the media will spend the next three months promoting.
In a post Monday on X, the battleground state Democrat touted Harris' candidacy but said he won't seek the job of being the second banana to a woman who could become the first president of the country's DEI.

“I strongly support Vice President Harris' campaign for the presidency. I know he will win and I was honored to be considered for this role,” Cooper said.
“This was not the right time for North Carolina and for me to potentially be on a national ticket. As I've said from the beginning, you have an outstanding list of people to choose from, and we're all going to work to make sure that win,” he added in a statement shared on the social media platform.
A source said CNN that Cooper “was approached by the Harris campaign to be reviewed, and declined.”
“Kamala Harris is a strong woman. She's going to lead this country in a way that cares about the pocketbook. … She's going to work to clean up our environment. She's going to work to make sure people have health care and an education quality. That's the kind of person we need,” Cooper said on a Monday “White Dudes for Harris” Zoom call, according to CNN.
Cooper could have put the Tarheel State, which Trump won in 2020 and 2016, up for grabs for Democrats.
Yes @KamalaHarris is the nominee, watch for North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper to be the vice presidential nominee. He's a safe pick that puts his state back on the line, as he got more votes than President Trump in 2020 in North Carolina. The party and Harris reportedly want their running mate to be chosen and in place by August 7, well ahead of the Democratic National Convention at the end of the month, an event that was supposed to be a massive protest of the base of the Israel-hating party against “Genocide Joe,” but now it's going to be a nauseating love fest guaranteed to get swooning coverage from a media outlet that greatly aided the party's coup to oust the his geriatric leader and promote Harris.
Other names in the mix include battleground state Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.
There are also Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, who could be a hard sell to the party's rabidly anti-Semitic base, and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, a former astronaut who is said to be at the top of the list but the his ties to a surveillance balloon company that received money from Chinese investors could be a problem.
