It seems conservatives aren't the only group that has a problem with the current state of the presidential race.
Following President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the presidential race, the Democratic Party accepted Vice President Kamala Harris as the presumptive nominee. That didn't sit well with a lot of people, including, apparently, the Black Lives Matter organization.
While it's rare for BLM and the GOP to agree on much, especially after the George Floyd riots, both groups seem to understand the consequences of the current political climate. BLM issued a statement Tuesday accusing Democrats of “installing” Kamala and engaging in “undemocratic” practices.
“We don't live in a dictatorship. Delegates are not oligarchs. Installing Kamala Harris as the unknown Democratic nominee and vice president without any public voting process would turn the modern Democratic Party into a party of hypocrites,” the organization stated.

“Black Lives Matter demands that [DNC] immediately host an informal, virtual nationwide primary before the DNC convention in August,” the statement continued. “We ask that the Commission on Rules create a process that allows for citizen participation in the nominating process, not just one party delegate nomination. The current political landscape is unprecedented, with President Biden stepping aside in a way never seen before. This moment calls for decisive action to protect the integrity of our democracy and the voices of the black voters.”
“Democratic Party elites and billionaire donors are trying to manipulate black voters by pairing Kamala Harris and an unknown vice president as the new Democratic ticket without a primary vote from the public,” the group charged. “This flagrant disregard for democratic principles is unacceptable. While the potential outcome of a Harris presidency may be historic, the process to achieve it must be aligned with true democratic values.”
Another point of contention is that voters are pledging to support Harris, even though she has not gone on the record with any of her political positions. The lack of a vice presidential election is also unsettling for those who feel that November 5 is just around the corner.
“We have no idea where Kamala Harris stands on the issues, now that she's taken over from Joe Biden, and we have no idea about the record of her potential VP because we don't even know who he is yet,” the BLM . said the group.
BLM leader Shalomyah Bowers spoke about the statement and clarified that the point is to save democracy, not attack Harris.
“This is not an attack on Kamala Harris or black women, and we are not questioning Kamala's qualifications or abilities right now,” she said. “This is about the nominating process. Those of us who care about the principles of democracy cannot seriously install Kamala Harris and an unknown vice president as the Democratic nominee without any semblance of a people-driven process. Not the delegates and the party elites, but asking communities across the country if they think this should be the Democratic ticket. Anything less is not serious in the pursuit of democracy.”
While the Harris campaign has not responded to BLM's concerns, it is likely a low blow for the vice president who has wholeheartedly supported the group in the past.
At the height of the deadly BLM-Antifa riots in June 2020 that saw neighborhoods, buildings and police stations burned and violently occupied, @KamalaHarris encouraged continued violence.
“They won't give up, and they shouldn't,” Ms Harris said.

During a June 2020 episode of Stephen Colbert's “The Late Show,” Kamala enthusiastically endorsed the demonstrations, even as cities burned and violence ensued.
“They're not going to stop. They're not going to stop, and that's a movement, I tell you. They're not going to stop. And they're all counting because they're not going to stop. They're not going to stop before Election Day in November, and they will not stop after Election Day,” he stated emphatically. “And everybody should take note of that on both levels. They're not going to quit, and they shouldn't. And we shouldn't.”
