Andrea Lawful-Sanders, anchor of “The Source” on WURD in Philadelphia, shared with CNN that she used pre-approved questions provided by the Biden campaign during an interview with Joe Biden. The station and Lawful-Sanders have “mutually agreed to part ways, effective immediately,” WURD announced in a statement.

The station clarified that the interview was independently arranged by Lawful-Sanders, without the knowledge or cooperation of WURD management. WURD stressed its commitment to independent journalism and accountability to its audience, saying the use of pre-determined questions violated its standards.

Lauren Hitt, a spokeswoman for the Biden campaign, initially defended the use of pre-approved questions, saying it was “not uncommon” for campaigns to share favorite topics for interviews. However, after the controversy, a source familiar with Biden's booking operation told a New York Post that the campaign will no longer offer suggested questions to interviewers.
