National Black Farmers Association President John Boyd Jr. said Tuesday that black farmers are a dying breed and criticized President Joe Biden for helping Ukraine but not American farmers.
There are now only 40,000 black farmers in the United States, down from a million at their peak, and their land ownership has declined dramatically, Boyd said on Fox Business' “Varney & Co.” Biden administration launches $100 million initiative to provide Ukrainian farmers with supplies needed during war with Russia, CNN reported in 2022.
I WILL SEE:
“We're definitely facing extinction and as far as American farmers are concerned, all farmers are suffering, and under this leadership, where we're sending aid to Ukraine, but we're not going to stop foreclosures for American farmers,” he said. Boyd stated.
Debt relief for non-white farmers passed Congress in 2021, but the Biden administration repealed it after the legal crackdown. seconds on CNN.
“We see it almost like 40 acres and a mule. You promise to help farmers, but you don't, and then we promised to get $5 billion for farmers who have been waiting for this relief for decades and this administration repealed it so we don't get debt relief, but then I see $100. billion going to Ukraine. And some of that money went to help Ukrainian farmers with taxpayers' money,” he said. “I'm saying, 'Why can't we use some of these resources to help farmers here at home in the United States?'
“And I look at the crisis at the border, it's in complete chaos,” Boyd added. “The border should be closed, and we're letting people into this country and we're putting them in hotel rooms and giving them spending cards, but you're not going to help American farmers. There's something terribly wrong with this image. We are American citizens and American farmers should come first. That is what my message to the president is and if I had the opportunity to tell him, I would tell him to put the America's farmers first.”
