Biles and Lee respond to criticism, men's skiff race halted

Simone Biles and Sunisa Lee, members of the US gymnastics team, have sparked some controversy after a recent Instagram post. The post responded to criticism from a former teammate, MyKayla Skinner, who suggested the current team lacked the talent and work ethic of past teams. Biles and her teammates, including Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera, had just won gold in the team finals. Biles responded to Skinner's comments with a collage of photos celebrating her win, with the caption “lack of talent, lazy Olympic champions.” Skinner later apologized for his comments.

In other Olympic news, the men's sculling medal race was halted due to a sudden lack of wind. The Uruguayan team of Hernán Umpierre and Fernando Diz were leading when the race was stopped. The race is ready to restart, giving teams that had a slow start a second chance. The medal race is worth double points, with teams carrying their existing points into the race.

Simone Biles will also compete in the women's gymnastics final at the Bercy Arena. If she wins, Biles, at 27, would become the oldest women's champion since Maria Gorokhovskaya in 1952. Biles will compete against fellow Team USA Olympian and defending Olympic champion Suni Lee.

The United States also had success in the men's rowing four final, with Nick Mead, Justin Best, Michael Grady and Liam Corrigan winning gold. This is the first time the Americans have won gold in this event since 1960.

American tennis star Danielle Collins has criticized her opponent Iga Swiatek for being dishonest about an injury. Collins withdrew from her quarterfinal match due to a stomach muscle injury. He also criticized Olympic organizers for not providing insulated water bottles in the heat of Paris.

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif won her first match against Italian fighter Angela Carini in 46 seconds amid a gender eligibility controversy. The Algerian Olympic Committee has condemned Khelif's “unethical targeting and defamation”.

US women's rugby sevens star Ilona Maher has been promoting body positivity on social media. She responded to a troll who commented on her body mass index, stating that she has been considered overweight her whole life, but that doesn't take away from her abilities on the field.

The United States currently leads the total medal count with 30 medals. Katie Ledecky won gold in the women's 1500m freestyle, setting an Olympic record. Other medalists include Torri Huske, Perris Benegas and Evy Leibfarth. Expectations for more gold medals will rise with the return of Simone Biles and Suni Lee to gymnastics competition.
