Biden's talk on the bench ramps up as his own campaign polls the possibility of Kamala

The Biden-Harris campaign is stoking speculation with an internal poll that hints at a possible shakeup at the top of the Democratic ticket. Amid persistent talk in Democratic circles of a Biden benching after his debate debacle, Vice President Kamala Harris is quietly going head-to-head with former President Donald Trump in a recent poll.

According to sources communicated to The New York Times, the purpose of the survey and its implications remain shrouded in mystery. The Times' Maggie Haberman, Shane Goldmacher, Reid Epstein and Lisa Lerer noted that this poll is the campaign's first attempt to measure the post-debate dynamic between Trump and Harris.

The survey director remains elusive, and experts wonder about the camp's motives. A purported internal memo from campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez and campaign chair Jennifer O'Malley Dillon sought to allay fears, asserting Biden's resilience as a top contender against Trump.

“In addition to what we believe is a clear path for us, there is also no indication that anyone else will outperform the president against Trump. Hypothetical polls of alternative candidates will always be unreliable, and polls do not take into account the negative media environment that any Democratic candidate will encounter. The only Democratic candidate for whom this is already baked in is President Biden.”

In an apparently preemptive stance, the campaign asserted Biden's strategic stronghold amid mounting speculation. While alternative candidates face skepticism, the memo asserts that only Biden is impervious to preemptive media criticism.

Contrary to any increase in Harris, recent polls of Emerson College suggests a larger lead for Trump over Biden and Harris.

Trump has a strong six-point margin against Harris in the national showdowns, amplifying doubts about his viability against the former president.

Rumors of Biden's campaign in a tailspin gained momentum with reports from close allies considering exit strategies. NBC news sources within Biden's circle painted a grim picture, with one official stating bluntly: “He needs to quit. He's never going to recover from this.”
