Showing that the green agenda was really red, President Joe Biden took crony capitalism to new heights, invoking the powers of war in his battle against gas appliances.
On Friday, Biden and Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm issued a joint statement announcing $169 million for major corporations including Honeywell International, Copeland LP and Mitsubishi Electric US Inc. Funding the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, the administration’s climate agenda drew a chill. Relic of the war era to support the movement in the name of “national security”.
Targeting nine projects in 15 locations, the Department of Energy (DOE) and the White House announced the first awards through the Defense Production Act (DPA) of 1950 to “increase domestic production of five key technologies of ‘clean energy, including electric heat pumps’.
“Getting more American-made electric heat pumps on the market will help families and businesses save money with efficient heating and cooling technology,” said Granholm. “These investments will create thousands of high-quality, high-paying manufacturing jobs and strengthen America’s energy supply chain, while creating healthier indoor spaces through homegrown clean energy technologies.”

Presidential adviser and clean energy czar John Podesta added to the announcement, saying, “Today’s Defense Production Act funds for the manufacture of heat pumps show that President Biden is dealing with the climate change as the crisis it is.”
“These awards will grow domestic manufacturing, create good-paying jobs and boost American competitiveness in the industries of the future,” he added, while the statement announced that more than 1,700 “high-quality, well-rounded jobs will be created paid”.
“The president is using his wartime emergency powers under the Defense Production Act to boost American manufacturing of clean technologies and strengthen our energy security,” said National Climate Adviser by Biden, Ali Zaidi. “This acceleration in electric heat pump manufacturing also shows how President Biden’s Investing in America agenda is advancing American innovation, lowering energy bills for working families and addressing the climate crisis: a win, a win for our economy, our workers and our planet.”
As before reportedIn a series of regulatory moves invading America’s home appliances to suit the whims of the green movement, the “consensus-based recommendations” involving two of the largest water heater manufacturers set a goal of ‘fuel utilization efficiency of 95% per year (AFUE) before the end of the current decade, a change from the current standard of 80%.
Given that the move will ultimately take less efficient but cheaper furnaces off the market and impose on American consumers the cost of installing newer technology when their options become limited in the future, Competitive Enterprise Institute Senior Fellow Ben Lieberman affirmed for Fox News Digital, the move was little more than the latest example of picking winners and losers.
“This is absolutely shameful business welfare. But we have to believe that, because it’s for the sake of climate change, everything is going well. I think it’s ridiculous”, he expressed. “Of all the climate emergency declarations claimed by the administration Biden, this may be the craziest of them all. There’s no shortage of heat pumps, it’s just that not all homeowners want them.”
“Consumers should decide for themselves,” Lieberman continued. “Government has no role in tipping the scales in favor of one energy source over another. That’s clearly what’s happening here.”
American Gas Association President and CEO Karen Harbert also weighed in, telling the outlet, “Energy security is a top priority for AGA. We are deeply disappointed to see the Energy Production Act defense, which is intended as a vital tool to advance national security against serious external threats, is being used as a tool to advance a political agenda contradictory to our nation’s strong energy position.”
“Increased use of natural gas has been responsible for sixty percent of the reductions in CO2 emissions from the electricity grid,” he detailed. “This vital tool for emissions reduction and energy system resilience should not be unfairly undermined through misuse of the Defense Production Act.”
In addition, the administration also tried to score intersectionality points with its pro-corporatist pamphlet, as it aligned with President Biden’s Justice40 initiative and asserted that “40 percent of the overall benefits of certain federal climate, clean energy and other covered investments flow to disadvantaged communities marginalized by underinvestment and overburdened by pollution.”
All as part of a broader initiative targeting home appliances toward a purported savings of $570 billion and reducing emissions by more than 2.4 billion metric tons over a 30-year period.
