white house Tyler Cherry, the officer, is downplaying his previous social media posts after his controversial views received widespread criticism.
Cherry, who last week was promoted to associate White House communications director, previously called the police the evolution of the “slave patrol” and called for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE) and supported the anti-Israel movement.
“Prior social media posts from when I was younger do not reflect my current views. Period,' Cherry wrote to X.
He added, “I support this Administration's agenda and will continue my communications work focused on our climate and environmental policies.”
Several critics of X claim that Cherry is trying to “spoof” his previous tweets, meaning to manipulate or alter them. But White House staff did not question the authenticity of his earlier posts, only that his views had evolved.

His move to the White House communications team has brought back his previous posts on X, formerly Twitter.
Several posts from about a decade ago express anti-police and anti-Israel views.
“Clap in the bars to end the occupation of Palestine – no shame and screw your looks #ISupportGaza #FreePalestine,” he wrote in a post on July 25, 2014.
President Joe Biden has repeatedly reaffirmed his administration's support for Israel amid the war in Gaza with Hamas terrorists. This stance has angered the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.
In January 2015, Cherry wrote: “Police = slave patrol. Voter ID = poll tax.'
In another post from 2015, Cherry said she “further prayed for an end to a capitalist police state motivated by explicit and implicit racial prejudice.” This tweet came during the unrest following the death of Freddie Gray, a black man, in Baltimore while in police custody.
“It's time to remember that the modern police system is a direct evolution of slave patrols and lynch mobs,” he posted on X in June 2015.

Cherry then pushed the Russiagate conspiracy in a 2017 post with, “At this point, how is it that everyone in the White House (including Pence) is *not* complicit in the Russia scandal?'
Other publications call out Republicans directly, accusing them of being too focused on the “politics of white grievances.”
But Cherry says he was younger when those posts were written and fits the Biden administration's goals and directive.
His previous calls to abolish ICE are troubling to some the position of the current administration towards immigration i southern border crisis. Republicans and border hawks say Biden has implemented open border policies that have wreaked havoc on the U.S. immigration system.
Nearly 8 million illegal migrants have crossed the southern border since Biden took office in 2021 and reversed Trump-era immigration policies.
