President Joe Biden sparked a whirlwind of backlash Saturday by asserting that there is no southern border crisis.
As he was leaving the White House for Camp David, a Fox News reporter bluntly asked him whether or not there was a crisis at the border. The president answered with a “no”.
Listen:
“No, but I've been pushing them from my Republican colleagues since they came into office. I think we need to make big changes at the border,” he said without specifying what kind of changes he meant.
So far, Democrats have pushed for changes that could stem the flow of illegal alien migrants into the United States. Instead, his proposals would only make it easier/faster to prosecute more illegals in the United States.
Meanwhile, Democrats refuse to touch the much more legitimate proposal of congressional Republicans.
“The HR 2 Secure the Border bill is a broad package passed by House Republicans in May,” the hill notes “The package included limits on asylum protections, provisions to resume construction of the border wall and an expansion of qualifications for refugee status, among other changes.”
Regardless, the president's refusal to even acknowledge that there is a crisis inspired a flood of severe backlash from congressional Republicans.
Here's just a small sample of the reaction:
Joe Biden doesn't think the more than 8.5 million illegal immigrants entering our country since he took office or kicking American students out of class to accommodate immigrants is a crisis. https://t.co/u9fSneO2Qa

The president lives in a parallel universe.
It's a crisis. We are at 300,000 illegal steps per month. Under Obama, they considered 30,000 a month a crisis. We had to force the president and Chuck Schumer to the negotiating table to secure our border. https://t.co/8GnWub04tv

Since President Biden took office, more than 6.7 million illegal aliens have crossed our southern border.
There is a crisis on our southern border.
And it's all in the hands of the White House and the Democratic Party. https://t.co/2nifR6dmLz

ridiculous There's a crisis at the border, and it's Joe Biden's doing. @HouseGOP passed the strongest border security legislation in decades nearly a year ago. He has ignored it.
Here are 64 additional actions he has taken to fuel this crisis: https://t.co/9wBdgoP0sI https://t.co/rBdM3tJNtS

.@POTUSthe architect of the open borders crisis, is also delusional if he thinks Republicans have been unwilling to secure it.
The truth is that he is the most dishonest, corrupt and incompetent president in the history of the United States. https://t.co/TNRTxb6Fga

The responses continue for days.
One of the best answers came from former Illinois congressional candidate Jack Lombardi II.
“Joe Biden says there is NO CRISIS on the southern border. Which confirms my suspicions. The invasion is on purpose and that is why this electoral objection was presented. What do you have to say to Joe Biden?” he he tweeted.
He was right.
Did you know that before Biden took office in 2021, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency had a program, 287(g), to remove illegal alien migrants from the US?
According to ICE, the program “enhances the safety and security of our nation's communities by allowing ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) to partner with state and local law enforcement agencies to to identify and remove incarcerated non-citizen criminals who may be removed from the U.S. before being released into the community.”
However, in January 2021, the month Biden took office, ICE silenced the program. The “hold” was not publicly disclosed until August 2023.
“This hold does not appear to have been authorized by a law enacted by Congress, nor has ICE ever taken any official action under the Administrative Procedure Act (APA) to create or impose the hold,” according to a press release from the Immigration Law Reform Institute (IRLI).
“Furthermore, the agency did not even publicly acknowledge the withholding's existence until August 2023, more than two and a half years after its apparent initiation,” the press release continues.
Last week, IRLI sued ICE demanding the agency explain why it chose to suspend the valuable program.

“Increased cooperation between ICE and local law enforcement is critical and makes our communities safer, so of course this administration wants to limit that effort,” said Executive Director and IRLI General Counsel, Dale L. Wilcox, in a statement.
“There is no benefit to this country or its legal residents in keeping criminal aliens in the country, but it appears to be a priority of this White House. The American people own these emails, but they don't He allows them to see them because it could embarrass this administration and expose their extremist agenda,” he added.
