Biden NSA created a glossary that told employees how to talk about race, gender and capitalism

The agency that provides intelligence to the US military promulgated a document that defines words to use in conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice, a leaked but unclassified document.

The National Security Agency (NSA) document, first obtained from The Daily Wire, includes definitions of different types of prejudice, sexual and gender identities or orientations, economic systems, and everyday terms related to so-called racial “responsibility” work. The “core” diversity terms for NSA employees are “diversity,” “diversity in the workplace,” equitable,” which asks doing adjustments to perceived imbalances and biases to provide equal treatment to all, and “the culture of inclusion or inclusion,” the document, dated May 6, 2022, states.

“It is by no means an exhaustive list and, in all contexts, the meaning of these words can change and evolve. This glossary and its definitions provide a starting point for engaging in open and honest conversation, and is a tool intended to build a shared language of understanding,” the document says.

It is not clear whether this document superseded a similar one or if some other guidance replaced it.

James Hewitt, a spokesman for Republican Rep. Mike Waltz of Florida, who sits on the House Intelligence Committee’s NSA subcommittee, confirmed the document’s authenticity to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The definition of “anti-racist” date 2019’s “How to be Anti-Racist” by Ibram X. Kendi, which argues that it is racist not to actively fight allegedly racist policies.

Also includes a definition of “white fragility” based on in Robin DiAngelo’s 2018 book of the same name

An “accomplice” works “to directly challenge institutionalized racism, colonization, and white supremacy by blocking or impeding racist people, policies, and structures,” the document says.

It also defines “sex reassignment” in the context of surgery as an “often offensive term”.

The glossary contains definitions of terms including “asexual”, “aromantic”, “bisexual”, “bigender”, “demisexual”, “demisexual”, “genderqueer”, “pangender”, “pansexual”, as well as the pronouns ze/ zir

“Cisnormativity” is defined as “the belief that being cisgender is normal. This belief fuels a system of oppression that privileges cisgender people and denies equality to transgender people.”

“Cissexism” is the “assumption that all people are cisgender. Because this assumption is so deeply ingrained in our society through socialization, many people say and do things that are cisgender without realizing it or having the intend to do so.”

It also includes the acronyms AMAB, “assigned male at birth” and AFAB, “assigned female at birth,” terms used by advocates to enforce the idea that a person’s sex is not inherent.

The NSA added a caveat under the term “female body,” which equates to AFAB.

“Although still occasionally used, this term is very problematic as it genders bodies in non-consensual ways and plays with cissexism (as breasts or a vulva, for example, are considered inherently female),” she says . A corresponding note appeared under the “male-bodied” entry.

The glossary delves into economic and political systems, including neoliberalism and capitalism, which is defined as “an economic and political order that is based on a largely private and unequal market system of production and consumption.”

The NSA did not immediately respond to DCNF’s request for comment.
