A recent report by the US Department of Homeland Security's Office of the Inspector General (OIG) has revealed a serious lapse in security procedures, according to Arizona Republican Representative Eli Crane. The report notes that the agency has waived in-person interviews for nonimmigrant visa holders, creating a significant security risk.
In a video statement, Crane detailed the findings of the report, which he has been studying closely. “Hey guys, I want to make a quick video about a report I've been studying for the past few days. This is from the Office of the Inspector General of the US Department of Homeland Security. This is what it looks like right here. well This is called a Management Alert. CBP has limited information to evaluate interview-exempt nonimmigrant visa holders.”

The OIG report, released on June 25, 2024, indicates that between seven and nine million people in the United States with legitimate visas have not been properly vetted.
Crane criticized the current administration's handling of homeland security and the southern border. “Now I know this will not come as a surprise to many of you who have been following the Harris Biden Mayorkas administration and how horrible they have been when it comes to national security and our southern border.”
Crane explained the traditional vetting process, which involves a rigorous interview and background check for visa applicants. “Typically, the way it's supposed to work is, if you're a foreigner and you want to come to the United States of America and you want to get a visa to do that, you have to go to the consulate or the embassy of the nation you are from and you are applying You have to do an interview, you have to be fingerprinted, you have to have a local background check and you have to run your information through our intelligence, already you know, collection recordings, etc., to see if you're a criminal, a terrorist, or out to harm Americans, and you shouldn't be here.”
Unfortunately, Crane noted, this critical verification process has been compromised. “According to this report, this type of verification, these personal interviews that I'm talking about with all this have not been done. These have been waived, and liability is being placed on CBP.”
The report reveals that visa holders are being admitted to the US without the thorough vetting that should have occurred at their point of origin. “What's happening is these people are getting visas, legitimate visas. They come to the United States, they come to a port of entry, and, you know, the CBP officer or official just looks at their visa to determine if the their visa is legitimate and then lets them into the country, not knowing that the verification that had to take place for the issuance of this visa, not knowing that this is not being done.”
Crane expressed concern about the potential security risks posed by this failure. “As an American, I want people who come here to work or go to school to be screened, because I'm sure you common sense people can see that this is just another, you know, a another way a terrorist could exploit to enter the United States of America on a legitimate visa you know and be walking around here ready to harm Americans.”
Crane called for public awareness and action to address this problem. “If you want to get this report out, look at it for yourself. Help us expose this massive failure by the same administration that brought you this open southern border.”
