In the days leading up to his physical (but not his cognitive exam), Joe Biden desperately tried to spin the narrative about his growing senility, falsely claiming that Donald Trump recently forgot his wife Melania's name.
During an episode of Late Night With Seth Meyers, the supposed comedian asked Biden “…joking aside, according to recent polls, that [your age] is a real concern for American voters. How do you address this concern heading into the 2024 election?”
Biden replied: “Well, a couple of things. First, you have to look at the other one. He's the same age as me, but he can't remember his wife's name.
Ironically, Biden seemed to struggle to maintain his train of thought in the rest of his response.
Trump quickly fired back in a funny video;
Trump: They're constantly making up stories about me because their candidate is a mental and physical basket case. There has never been anything like it. He is also the worst president in the history of our country. Went to a very poorly rated show last night [sic] and talked about Donald Trump and his wife. I don't know my wife's name.
He was referring to the fact that, at CPAC, where I gave a sold-out speech, the biggest audience they've had in years, I think maybe ever, I said that Melania was very popular because when I mentioned her name. , the audience went wild. Then I looked at the two people, man and woman, Matt and Mercedes Schlapp and said, “Wow! They really like the [former] First Lady”.
So this was taken as the fact that he thought Mercedes was the one [former] First Lady It has nothing to do with that. These people are really dishonest. They are absolutely something.
Even the otherwise awful fact-checkers admitted that Biden was wrong here, with Newsweek call Biden's claim false.
Trump: They have a horrible candidate who is a horrible president! They invent things constantly. Notice when I use “Barack Hussein Obama” and the interlacing where “Biden” is supposed to be, and I'm doing it specifically for comic reasons and sarcasm because a lot of people say that Obama is running the country, not Biden because he is sleeping all the time. They say, oh, I don't know the president's name.
At the end of the video, which is worth watching in its entirety, Trump concludes by telling the media, “Don't associate me with the mindless dwarf you represent.”
