The Biden administration added billions in bureaucratic costs last week despite a shortened work schedule, according to the American Action Forum (AAF).
Federal agencies posted roughly $9.4 billion in regulatory costs from Jan. 16-19, even with the Martin Luther King Jr. shortened work week. Day, AAF reported Monday. In total, the Biden administration has added $454.2 billion in regulatory costs since President Joe Biden took office in 2021, nearly twice as long as the former Obama administration at the same time and roughly 15 times longer than the former Trump administration.
Most of the new costs last week came from the Department of Energy (DOE), which proposed adding $3.2 billion to the “Blower and Fan Energy Conservation Standards” program that focuses on “fans of air circulation” (ACF), according to AAF. The DOE last week finalized about $5 billion in costs for the Energy Conservation Standards for Refrigerators, Freezers, and Freezers initiative.
The Biden administration has released roughly $6.8 billion in final costs and $4.7 billion in proposed costs since Jan. 1, with the vast majority added during the reduced work schedule last week, according to AAF. These new costs will add 4.6 million hours of paperwork.
The total of $454.2 billion in final costs under Biden has added 279.9 million hours in paperwork, according to AAF. Only $28.6 billion in costs and 65 million hours of paperwork were added under former President Donald Trump; $274.4 billion and 189 hours were added under former President Barack Obama.
The Biden administration has used regulations to advance several left-wing policies, including strict energy and weather-Related programs, sweeping student loan the forgiveness programs and arms control initiatives. The national debt has increased by more than $6 billion since Biden takes office in 2021, equivalent to about $47,000 per US household.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
