Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) stepped up the progressive left's lobbying campaign to force Israel to suspend its military operation against Hamas terrorists in Gaza.
On Friday, the avowed socialist accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of violating international law and committing “atrocities” over the Jewish nation's bombing campaign aimed at eradicating the organization responsible for the massacre of more than a thousand of Israelis in a sneak attack in October. .
The two-time failed Democratic presidential candidate introduced a resolution in the US Senate to force a debate on the “indiscriminate targeting that is being carried out by the right-wing government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu” with the goal of an investigation which could result in cutting off aid to America's vital Middle Eastern ally.
The Netanyahu government's indiscriminate bombing of innocent men, women and children in Gaza will be remembered among some of the darkest chapters in modern history. The United States must end our complicity in these actions. https://t.co/yI4SDruzPs

“We all know that the brutal terrorist attack by Hamas started this war,” Comrade Bernie said in a statement on Friday. “But the indiscriminate bombing by the Netanyahu government is immoral, it is a violation of international law, and Congress must demand answers about the conduct of this campaign. A just cause for war does not excuse atrocities in the conduct of that war.”
Sanders' resolution seeks to use the Foreign Assistance Act, a law governing foreign aid that prohibits assistance to any country that commits “serious violations of internationally recognized human rights,” to force the State Department to submit a report potential rights violations within 30 days or security assistance is terminated.
“The scale of suffering in Gaza is unimaginable – it will be remembered among some of the darkest chapters in our modern history. This is a humanitarian cataclysm, and it is being carried out with US bombs and money. We must face this fact , and then we must end our complicity in these actions,” Sanders said.
The socialist senator is also calling for Biden to stop funding the Jewish democracy's war against the terrorists who attacked it and to support an Israel-hating United Nations resolution for an immediate cease-fire in Gaza.
I have asked President Biden to do two things:
1) Not giving $10 billion to Netanyahu's right-wing government to continue its horrible military strategy.
2) Support a UN humanitarian ceasefire to get desperately needed aid to the people of Gaza and release the hostages. pic.twitter.com/kXpKuOdI8U

In a four-page letter to Biden this week, Sanders invoked the 1945 Allied bombing of the German city of Dresden and the incendiary bombing of Japan during World War II as pure hyperbole.
The United States must not provide $10 billion in military aid to Netanyahu's right-wing government to wage its horrific war against innocent Palestinians.

Sanders' resolution comes as Biden has been showing signs of cracking under relentless pressure for a ceasefire, appearing to throw Netanyahu under the bus in remarks to Democratic donors during a closed-door meeting this week.
“I think it has to change, and with this government, this government of Israel is making it difficult for it to move,” Biden told the players, describing the Netanyahu regime as the “most conservative government in the history of Israel.”
Biden also said that Jewish democracy “has the majority of the world supporting it,” but added, “they're starting to lose that support because of the indiscriminate bombing that's going on.”
