Ben Shapiro: The Biden Reelection Campaign That Scares You

Joe Biden faces a tough battle for re-election.

He's desperate, and he should be. The world is an uglier and uglier place under Biden. Hardly anyone believes the country is headed in the right direction. Americans are deeply dissatisfied with the economy; America is experiencing an unprecedented illegal immigration crisis; and the world seems to be on fire, from the Middle East to the Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Biden himself is clearly ill; As comedian Shane Gillis recently said, “My favorite thing about Biden is that every time Biden finishes a speech, he turns into a Roomba.” This is clearly true. In fact, after Biden's recent tirade against Donald Trump at Valley Forge, Dr. Jill Biden, the oldest doctor in the entire country, charged onto the stage like a shepherd trying to corral a stray sheep, cornering the president towards the back of The stage.

So what can Biden do?

He can pull out every scare tactic he knows.

And that is precisely what he is doing, 10 months away from the 2024 election.

His campaign is based on two main themes: Trump, and also Trump.

First, Biden argues, Donald Trump is ostensibly a threat to democracy. Biden declared at Valley Forge: “Donald Trump's campaign is obsessed with the past, not the future. He's willing to sacrifice our democracy, to get into power.” He said this in the middle of a speech on the evils of January 6, while calling Trump an insurrectionist, which would presumably disqualify Trump from the ballot. Biden's own Justice Department has hit Trump with two separate federal criminal cases, one in Florida and the other in Washington, DC.

In other words, it's a hard case to make that Trump is the real threat to democracy, while Biden is democracy's defender.

Second, Biden argues, Donald Trump is a white supremacist. Biden told Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina, the site of a 2015 white supremacist mass shooting, that Trump's denial of the election represented a “second lost cause,” in a way comparable to the southern lost cause narrative that portrayed the loss of the civilian. War as the death of a grand and glorious way of life at the hands of the perfidious Yankees. Yes, Biden suggested, Trump was similar to the Confederates. And he, Joe Biden, would stand in his way.

Biden has made this case before. Against, yes, really, Mitt Romney. In 2012, Biden argued that Romney would put black Americans “in chains” again. Suffice to say, Biden has little credibility trying to breathe new life into this political corpse.

But he's still unlikely to win it.

That's why Biden is pulling so hard to his left instead of the middle. In his speech in Charleston, pro-Hamas protesters began calling for a cease-fire in Gaza that would leave Hamas in power after the Oct. 7 massacre. Biden coyly replied, “I understand their passion and have been quietly working with the Israeli government to get them to significantly scale back and get out of Gaza.”

Biden can leave no stone, no matter how radical, unturned.

And that tactic, in turn, will alienate many moderate voters who are fed up with the chaos that the Biden era has brought.

Bottom line, Biden is running his 2020 campaign again. This time there's one big difference: This time, Joe Biden is the president. And we all know it.
