Former US Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson weighed in on the issue of race with an impassioned post about the new coach of the New England Patriots.
The retired neurosurgeon shared a message on X calling for an end to the “victim” mentality in response to a video clip of the Patriots' first black head coach, Jerod Mayo, during a news conference.
“I see color,” Mayo responded to a reporter's question in Massachusetts on Wednesday. “Because I think if you don't see color, you can't see racism. And no matter what (black, white, even someone with a disability) for the most part, people say, “No.” When they're young, they make the hot spot a little bit.”
Carson found it “absurd” that it would even be brought up when football should be the main topic of discussion.
“It's absurd that these kinds of topics have found their way into modern NFL press conferences,” he wrote in X.

I have operated on thousands of people throughout my career. Every time the skin was peeled off, the brain was the same color, charged with the same amount of potential.

“I have operated on thousands of people throughout my career. Every time the skin was peeled back, the brain was the same color, charged with the same amount of potential,” continued the renowned doctor with more than 60 honorary doctorates .
“We must put an end to the 'victim' mentality that consumes this country. You can be anything you want, you just have to work hard!” added.
“This is America! This is the dream! I'm living proof of it!” he concluded. “Go make today a great day! Work hard! You're in America! No dream is too small!”
Carson, who was raised by a single mother in inner-city Detroit and struggled in his early school years, received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and even ran his own race for president in 2016. He was eventually appointed HUD Secretary by then-President Donald Trump.
Carson's impassioned post won praise and agreement on X:
“You can be anything you want to be, you just have to work hard!” – I love this line.
