Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares has demanded answers about the suspicious activity of donors to the ActBlue Democratic political action committee.
Miyarest expressed concern about irregularities in donations made through ActBlue, including cases where individual donors made an unusually large number of contributions, worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
My office is aware of these allegations and rest assured, we are investigating. https://t.co/BD13tYYtzH

In the letter, Miyares accused ActBlue of possibly engaging in fraudulent, deceptive and illegal activities in the state of Virginia.
It highlighted the presence of “facially implausible and suspicious” contribution volumes from individual donors, suggesting that these donations may come from fictitious donors, fictitious accounts, or without the consent or knowledge of the reported donors.
Miyares warned that such actions may violate several provisions of Virginia's charitable and criminal laws.
To shed light on ActBlue's procedures and practices, Miyares asked for a detailed description of the group's verification mechanisms for donor and contribution information, as well as the processes used to verify information reported to regulatory bodies.
He emphasized the seriousness of the allegations and set a deadline of August 12, 2024, urging ActBlue to provide a substantial response quickly.
