The left-leaning Associated Press is facing backlash for doing unnecessary fact-checking on vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance.
Published on Wednesday, the fact-checker sought to debunk the stupid, stupid and nonsensical claim Vance had written about having sex with a couch in his best-selling memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.”
The claim went viral thanks to left-wing nurturers like Kathy Griffin who blindly made it for partisan political gain.
Specific case:
I don't think we should have a couch as vice president. That's just me. Sorry JD. ♀️

According to the daily mailthe rumor started with a now private X account, @rickrudescalves.
“I can't say for sure, but I might be the first VP to admit in a NY Times bestseller that he screwed a latex glove between two couch cushions,” the account reportedly tweeted.
As alleged evidence to support this marginal claim, the account referenced false pages from Vance's memoirs. And then the lefties bought it hook, lie and hook, which is normal.
Now, to the AP's credit, he tried to defend Vance, didn't he? But the problem, critics say, is that Vance didn't need to defend himself in the first place because this claim about him was so silly that no one believed it.
National Review writer Noah Rothman explained the criticism with the following: “Last night, the AP published a 'fact check' of no one totally unknown who alleged that JD Vance fornicated a couch, not because anyone would believe it, but because it gets that nonsense into the bloodstream. Today, it's gone. So sleazy.”
Look at:
Last night, the AP published a “fact check” by a complete stranger claiming that JD Vance fornicated a couch, not because anyone would believe it, but because it feeds that nonsense into the bloodstream. Today, it's gone. So cheeky https://t.co/puoojLI6WY

In other words, the theory is that the AP deliberately fact-checked the stupid claim simply to attract more people to the claim.
And indeed, it's no wonder leftists have been enjoying the AP's now-expunged fact-checking.
Note:
I love the idea that @JDVance he was forced to contact @AP and make them pull the “JD Vance doesn't have sex with couches” story because he did, in fact, rape a couch.

Please oh please I'm begging everyone…keep it up. I have to put my phone down for laughing so hard. It has no price.
I can't stop laughing that the AP retracted the fact-check article “JD Vance didn't have sex with a couch.” I want it repeated in all media.

It's amazing how bad this week has been for the Trump campaign. Body blow after body blow. The icing on the cake is that the AP has a lot of people asking the question: Did JD Vance fuck a couch? The answer, at this point, doesn't really matter. lmao https://t.co/IRZToW9log

Leftists who revel in lies and deceit are of course no surprise. It's exactly how the modern Democratic Party works.
In a statement, the AP said: “The story, which did not go over the wire to our clients, did not go through our standard editing process. We are looking into how this happened.”
The AP for its part has one history of attacks on Republicans. In May, for example, AP complained about the Republican Party's concern over the growing phenomenon of non-citizen voting.
“Voting for non-US citizens is already illegal in federal elections, and there is no indication that it will happen in significant numbers,” the hit piece read.
“Nevertheless, Republican lawmakers at the federal and state levels are putting their energy behind the issue, introducing legislation and fall ballot measures. The activity ensures the issue will remain at the forefront of voters' minds in the coming months “, it continued.
