According to the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD), officers ordered the suspect to reveal his hands as he moved toward the back of the gas station.
The suspect responded to this by shooting both the officers and other people present in the store.
In response to the threat, one of the officers returned fire, while others took cover and continued to issue commands to the suspect, who did not comply.
The suspect then pointed his weapon at the officers a second time, prompting another officer to fire his weapon.
Following this encounter, the suspect tried to flee the gas station and fired several shots at the officers.
In response, the officers shot and hit the suspect.
The suspect, identified as a 22-year-old Milwaukee resident, was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. A rifle belonging to the suspect was recovered at the scene.
MPD Chief Jeffrey Norman confirmed the suspect was wanted in connection with a shooting incident near 29th and Melvina on July 16 that left two people injured.
