The videos, including surveillance footage and footage from body cameras worn by officers, were made public as part of the town hall mandated following police-involved shootings.

The footage revealed Lopez turning around and pointing a gun at Officer Paul Balza, who had responded to a call about a stolen scooter on July 21.

When Officer Balza fired at Lopez three times, the third bullet struck Lopez in the torso, knocking him to the street.

The gun landed about 10 feet from Lopez, who was still alive and moving.

Later, Balza, along with his partner and other officers, positioned themselves behind a nearby car and signaled to Lopez to refrain from reaching for the gun, warning him that any such attempt would lead to more actions.

Despite police directions, a witness claimed that Lopez's girlfriend, who was at the scene, called for medical assistance as police approached.

After being arrested, Lopez received medical attention and was taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The series of events began with a 911 call reporting the theft of a scooter in United Nations Plaza, allegedly by an individual armed with a firearm.

Approximately thirty minutes later, police officers saw a man matching the suspect's description – a white male in his 20s to 40s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall, wearing a blue and white sweater and dark pants- and they tried to arrest him. . Nevertheless, López tried to evade capture and caused the pursuit of officer Balza.
