In Brooklyn, a man shot and wounded an attempted robber Sunday in a self-defense case, com reported by the police

The incident happened around 12:40 a.m. outside 721 Snediker Ave. in East New York.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement found 19-year-old Ryan Straker with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Emergency medical services transported Straker to Brookdale Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

According to police, the altercation involved an attempted robbery, and the subsequent shooting was an act of self-defense.

It was revealed that a firearm was brandished during the confrontation, resulting in a struggle that culminated in the weapon being discharged.

At this time, no charges have been filed against the individual who has defended himself. Local residents, talking to PIX11suggested the gunman might be a retired city corrections officer.

In response to the incident, Straker has been charged with attempted robbery, assault and criminal possession of stolen property.
