In addition to the sexual assault and kidnapping charges, Azami was charged with lewdness for allegedly picking up the unnamed 14- or 15-year-old girl in the parking lot of a marijuana dispensary where she told Metropolitan Police Department officers Las Vegas (LVMPD). ) was looking to “get something to smoke and eat”.
From there, during the alleged incident on September 3, 2023, police reports alleged that the suspect drove the girl to his apartment. “Azami stayed on the sofa for a while with his phone and then came to lay with her on the bed. [The teenager] she was just starting to fall asleep when Azami lay down behind her. She said she felt her pelvis “grinding” against her and that she wasn't wearing any clothes.”
Official documents also state that the girl proceeded to rape her after she asked him to stop. After the encounter, she showered and put on a piece of the suspect's clothing before fleeing the apartment where she asked a man near the Mirage Hotel for help.
The police report said he “met a man who was going to pick up his wife” and told him she “had been kidnapped and raped and needed the police.”
While he denied the allegations of sexual contact, Azami, who was out on $5,000 bond, told police he did not know the girl's age.
The Clark County courthouse incident came just weeks after 30-year-old Deobra Redden jumped Judge Mary Kay Holthus as she tried to carry out her sentence, demanding that she be fully restricted for her 19-to-48 sentence months for attempted battery with substantial bodily harm.

For allegedly hitting Azami, Cromwell was slapped with his own battery charge and was expected back in court on March 19, while the sexual assault suspect was due to appear on February 20.
While Cromwell's connection to the victim was not confirmed at the time of this publication, the reaction on social media spoke to the growing sense of justifiable “justice” delivered by civilians in a culture where violent crime has flourished thanks to soft-on-crime policies.
When our justice system fails to enforce the law, it will unfortunately fall into the hands of the citizens.
The only solution to avoid as much violence as possible is for the government to do its job.
