However, the announcement comes at a tumultuous time for Alec, who is due to go on trial again for involuntary manslaughter in a fatal shooting on the set of Rust in 2021. During filming, a Colt 45 held by Baldwin went off, resulting in the tragic death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. Baldwin has maintained that he did not pull the trigger and has pleaded not guilty to the charge. If convicted, he could face up to 18 months in prison. His request to dismiss the criminal charges was denied by a judge in May, and the trial will proceed in July.
This news follows the sentencing of the film's gun supervisor, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who received the maximum sentence of 18 months in prison after being convicted of involuntary manslaughter in April. He has since appealed against his conviction.
