When Kenneth Eugene Smith was slowly executed by nitrogen hypoxia for brutally murdering a woman, his wife screamed as she reportedly convulsed and thrashed.
Smith is the first person in history to be executed with this method according to the daily mail.
“Smith, 58, was killed in a 'horrific' 22-minute ordeal on Thursday when a gas mask was placed over his face, before a stream of 100 per cent nitrogen gas suffocated him in the execution chamber at William C. Holman Prison. in Atmore, Ala.,” the Daily Mail reported.
“At 22, Smith was one of two men convicted in the murder-for-hire of Elizabeth Sennett, 45, the wife of preacher Charles Sennet Sr. who hired the men to kill his wife in a plot of insurance”, the media. pointed out.
Sennett was stabbed 8 times in the chest and once on each side of the neck in 1988. She was paid $1,000 for the hit. Despite the brutal nature of his murder, leftists lined up to mourn the execution of their killer.

“The killer's spiritual guide, Jeff Hood, described the execution as the 'worst thing' he had ever seen, and claimed prison officials were stunned as he died much more slowly than expected ” wrote the Daily Mail.
“When they turned on the nitrogen, he started convulsing, he appeared on the gurney over and over again, he shook the whole gurney,” Hood said.
“(Smith) continued to breathe for what could be as long as nine minutes, ten minutes, unbelievable evil was unleashed in Alabama tonight … this was torture,” he stated.
Smith was pronounced dead at 8:25 p.m. It reportedly took 22 minutes after being gassed for him to take his last breath.
“As he spoke his last words, spoken through the gas mask over his face, Smith made a heart sign with his left hand to his family before declaring, 'Tonight Alabama takes humanity one step at a time. back… I leave with love, peace and light,” wrote the Daily Mail.

For his heinous crime, Smith was sentenced to death in 1996.
Lee Hedgepeth, one of five reporters who saw Smith killed, sat next to the killer's wife, Deanna, in the viewing gallery, just feet from where her husband awaited execution.
“The execution begins at around 7.53. Nitrogen begins to flow into the gas mask and Kenny begins to shake violently against the straps holding him,” he told the BBC.
“This violent shaking lasts about four or five minutes. I've witnessed five executions in Alabama. Four of them by lethal injection. One by nitrogen and that was the most violent execution I've ever seen,” he said. “Sitting next to me was Deanna Smith, Kenny's wife. Once Kenny started shaking violently against those straps, he started crying.
“There were other media witnesses in the room, people who had seen other executions, and I think there was shock in the room at how violent the execution was,” Hedgepeth said.

Alabama officials claimed Smith's death was an “effective and humane method of execution.” It was the first time a new execution method had been used since lethal injections were introduced 42 years ago.
The state had tried to execute Smith in 2022 by lethal injection and it didn't work. Prisons have had difficulty obtaining lethal injection drugs in recent years, so nitrogen was decided upon as a viable alternative that Smith himself had called for.
It took 35 years for justice to be served in Smith's case, but it finally came Thursday. Sennett's children attended to watch the execution.
'His debt was paid': Mike Sennett, the son of Alabama inmate Kenneth Eugene Smith's murder victim Elizabeth Sennett, has spoken out after Smith's controversial nitrogen hypoxia execution on Thursday in night, saying “we're glad this day is over.” https://t.co/pEr3l1zkto pic.twitter.com/6mNr1Rw7xu
