Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen has discovered that there are more than 3,000 potential non-citizens registered to vote in the state. His office is taking steps to remove non-citizens from the lists.
“I will not tolerate the participation of non-citizens in our elections,” Allen said in an Aug. 13 press release. “We have examined the current voter record to try to identify anyone on this list who has a non-citizen identification number.”
Allen's office found 3,251 registered voters with non-citizen identification numbers issued by the Department of Homeland Security, according to the statement. His office is telling local administrators to “deactivate and initiate steps necessary to remove all non-United States citizens” from the voter file.
Allen worked with “other state agencies that collect non-citizen identification numbers” and cross-checked them with voter records, Laney Rawls, Allen's communications director, told The Federalist. He said Allen has made this a “priority” since taking office in January 2023.
