Lead singer Steven Tyler's vocal cord injury dealt a blow to the Boston band, forcing them to curtail their touring ambitions.

With heavy hearts, Aerosmith took to social media to break the news to their devoted fans.

“It was 1970 when a spark of inspiration became Aerosmith. Thanks to you, our Blue Army, that spark was ignited and has been burning for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since from the beginning and you are all the reason we made rock 'n' roll history.

It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become a part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour, and in big, private moments, you've given us a place on the soundtrack of your lives.

We always wanted to let you fly when you perform. As you know, Steven's voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months working tirelessly to get his voice back to where it was before the injury. We have seen him fight despite having the best medical team by his side. Unfortunately, it is clear, that a full recovery from your vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary decision as a band of brothers to withdraw from the tour.

We are grateful beyond words for everyone who dared to hit the road with us one last time. Thank you to our expert crew, our amazing team and the thousands of talented people who make our historic races possible. A final thank you to you, the best fans on planet Earth. Play our music loud, now and always. Dream on the go. You made our dreams come true.

In a heartfelt message, Aerosmith expressed gratitude to their fans for making their music part of the soundtrack to their lives.

They say goodbye with a resounding message: “Play our music loud, today and always. Dream on the go. You made our dreams come true.”
