ABC's “This Week” featured a discussion between George Stephanopoulos and Martha Raddatz about the impact of political rhetoric on violence in the United States.
The conversation highlighted statements from politicians, including JD Vance, Vivek Ramaswamy and former President Donald Trump, and their contribution to the increasingly violent discourse in the country.
George Stephanopoulos noted: “But as you point out, these statements by JD Vance and Vivek Ramaswamy, of course President Trump and his supporters have also contributed to this violent rhetoric.”

Martha Raddatz provided specific examples of Trump's statements, saying, “Well, absolutely, George. We were just looking back this morning at some of the things that former President Trump has said. He warned last March of a possible death and destruction if he was indicted by the Manhattan District Attorney. Our country is being destroyed because we are told to be peaceful.”
Raddatz continued: “Trump, in January, warned of turmoil in the country if the criminal charges against him were successful. And of course, in March he said, 'Now, if I'm not elected, it's going to be a bloodbath for throughout the country”. That will be the least.' He said he was joking in part and that was taken out of context. But those are really his words, and you heard it from the fans as well.”

Both Stephanopoulos and Raddatz acknowledged the anger among some of Trump's supporters and referenced the events of January 6. Raddatz stressed: “Supporters are, in some parts, angry, and we remember January 6 in many ways for the campaign. January 6 will probably take a back seat after yesterday's event.”
The discussion concluded with Raddatz reflecting on the challenges facing the current campaign: “This is a very difficult time for this campaign. I'm sure this week in Milwaukee, President Trump will highlight that and President Biden will have to figure out how to move forward with his campaign and what exactly they're saying.”
