According to authorities, the incident occurred as Sahara Dula, a 24-year-old woman, was driving on the Upper East Side near an unrelated crime scene. Police were responding to a group allegedly involved in a robbery at a luxury clothing store around 4:30 p.m.
As officers worked to secure the suspect's getaway vehicle, an officer noticed Dula driving on the wrong side of the road. After asking him to pull over, Dula allegedly ignored the command and struck the officer with his black Lexus. Disturbingly, it was revealed that he admitted to an intentional crime during the investigation.
Dashcam footage captured the shocking moment of the impact, showing the officer being propelled over the hood of the vehicle. Colleagues quickly rushed to render assistance, while Dula appeared to get out of her car with her hands behind her back before being detained by another officer.

In court documents, Dula testified, “I told the cop I wanted to go straight and not die, so I hit him. I did it on purpose.” Witnesses also claim that after the incident, he expressed great disdain for law enforcement, yelling expletives and showing a lack of remorse.
The injured officer suffered fractures to both his arm and leg, which required medical treatment.
Sahara Dula now faces charges of vehicular assault, impaired driving and reckless endangerment. However, these charges have raised concerns among some members of the law enforcement community. PBA president Patrick Hendry questioned why Dula has not been charged with attempted murder, given his alleged admission of intent during the incident.
